4 PM Update

As I thought from last nights 0z NAM forecast soundings, the cap is winning so far.  Per the Storm Prediction Centers latest meso, initiation appears to be holding off till around 0z or 7pm Central Time.  Currently in Randolph, NE wait for things to go bang.  If storms can get going, the environment is ripe for super cells including tornadoes.

South Dakota/Nebraska Chase Tomorrow 5-5-12

Posted by on May 5, 2012 in Live Chase Updates | 0 comments

The setup definitively is not perfect, one of the major problems after looking at the 0z NAM is that there is a capping inversion at around 850mb.  Does appear to break out precip though by 0z.  The 0-1 SRH looks to be around 300 #sdwx.  CAPE looks to be around 4-5k.  The area as of now that I am targeting as of now is around Winner, SD of course this will change as the event unfolds.  I will be updating throughout the day tomorrow.  I do believe  that this will be a late show as the cap seems to be very strong but the NAM does...

FCST: Feb 2-5 Svr Storms and a Blizzard, you don’t say!

Posted by on Feb 1, 2012 in Uncategorized | Comments Off on FCST: Feb 2-5 Svr Storms and a Blizzard, you don’t say!

Thinking winter was over…well hold on for just a second, it is only February 1 you know.  A strong and very dynamic storm system will eject into the plains beginning late Thursday night.  The suite of weather models have been all over the place with this system and we have not blogged about it for that very reason.  Quite honestly this winter has been so weather boring we have found our interest to be rather lackluster.  As the days get longer and the moisture begins to return to the plains in earnest our weather...

Posted by on Dec 18, 2011 in Uncategorized | Comments Off on FCST: 12/19-20/11 ~ Blizzard SW Kansas

A potent winter storm system is taking aim on southwestern and central Kansas at this hour.  The storm will be a prolonged storm producing moderate to sometimes heavy snow across a large portion of the sunflower state for 18 hours or more.  Numerous winter storm and blizzard watches have been posted. Here is an overview of the latest watches and warnings from the National Weather Service: Here is a look at the storm system as it appears this morning on water vapor imagery.  The fly in the ointment, for a major snow for our...

Joplin, MO tornado through my eyes…..

Posted by on Jul 6, 2011 in Uncategorized | Comments Off on Joplin, MO tornado through my eyes…..

Here is a note I posted on my FaceBook page and had full intentions of putting it over onto the blog.  However, due to work and personal obligations I have not been able to do so until now.  I wrote this blog on June 1, 2011, the day I returned from spending 3 days in Joplin supporting the law enforcement effort.  The title holds true but there is no way I can describe what I saw and heard during my tour in Joplin. I was honored to respond and work with 11 of the best law enforcement officers I...
